Exploring Cockatoo Island

On Thursday, Sonia and I escaped from the busy city to Cockatoo Island, a peaceful place to wander around and catch up.

For most of our trip, it seemed as though we were the only people on the island. It was like our own slice of paradise. We wandered around the old buildings and thought the Industrial Precinct would be the perfect place to have a warehouse party, or to film a supernatural thriller. The Convict Precinct was on the elevated part of the island and allowed us to see the Harbour Bridge. The views up there were simply breathtaking and made us love this city even more.

Lunch at The Island Bar was a memorable one and luckily we went there before it wraps up business on Sunday. It wasn’t hard to pick a pizza – the proscuitto one jumped out at us. It was one of the best pizzas I’d ever tried! Then we bought our cocktails (L: The Tabloider, S: The Able Seaman Cup) and took it all back to our outdoor table, where we enjoyed the rest of the afternoon. Bliss!

Cockatoo Island is close enough to the CBD, but far enough to get some quality R&R. We can’t wait to go back and bask in the sun again!
